Liposuction In Pune
A good body shape, flat stomach, lean thighs, well-rounded buttocks and a slim and slender look are Why only womans dream?. This dream can now be fulfilled thanks to a revolutionary scientific method called Liposuction.
Liposuction, a magical science . . .
Liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures today. Also known as Liposculpture this is a procedure that can help contour your body by removing unwanted fat and inches from certain parts of the body, including the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, arms and chin. Other popular areas for liposuction include the neck, face, hips, upper arms, upper and lower abdomen, lower back, sides of the knees, and lower legs. At Karishma Cosmetic & Laser Centre, we achieve the best in body shaping by using a combination of techniques, customized for each patient to ensure optimum results.
What are the benefits of liposuction?
Liposuction can eliminate small deposits of fat from stubborn areas unresponsive to diet and exercise. The re-contouring effects of the procedure are often so dramatic that it looks as though more weight has been lost. Liposuction benefits are often more than aesthetic. Many patients are able to partake in activities they had previously avoided because of their appearance, and most report an increase in their confidence.
Am I a good candidate for liposuction?
You are a good candidate for liposuction if you are at or near your normal weight. People with localized areas of fat see the most dramatic results. Patients with firm, elastic skin will find that the skin fits easier to their reduced contour. There is no age limit for liposuction though older patients may have lesser skin elasticity and may not achieve the same results as a younger patient with tighter skin.
What does the liposuction procedure involve?
Liposuction is always performed in the operation theater at Karishma Cosmetic & Laser Centre. Most patients walk out of the clinic on the same day itself. In some cases, patients may need to spend a night at the clinic.
If only a small amount of fat and a limited number of body sites are involved, liposuction can be performed under local anesthesia, which numbs only the affected areas. Some patients prefer general anesthesia, particularly if a large volume of fat is being removed.
Different techniques of liposuction at Karishma
The basic technique of liposuction is same in all cases but variations have been made by surgeons to improve the ease of the procedure and to enhance outcome.
The technology for all these techniques is available at Karishma Cosmetic and Laser Clinic. The best technique suited to you will be advised by Dr Sanghvi during the initial consultation.
1)Tumescent technique of liposuction . . .
The most basic and common technique is the Tumescent liposuction technique. In this procedure, a large amount of saline solution is injected through tiny incisions into the area to be treated. A narrow tube or cannula is inserted to vacuum the fat layer that lies deep beneath the skin. The cannula is pushed and then pulled through the fat layer, breaking up the fat cells and suctioning them out.
Tumescent Liposuction is the traditional way of extracting fat from a specific region of the body. Here, the surgeon first injects a sterile solution comprising of salt-water, lidocaine and epinephrine into the target region. This solution reacts with the underlying fat and makes it easier to suck it out with minimal pain and blood loss. Sometimes, adrenaline is also added to the solution for preventing excessive bleeding.
2)Super-wet technique of liposuction . . .
Super-wet liposuction is similar to tumescent liposuction, but less fluid is injected into the treatment area. The saline fluid separates fat from muscle, making it easier for the liposuction surgeon to remove fat. This procedure takes longer than basic liposuction because the saline fluid must percolate before fat removal can begin.
3)Ultrasound-assisted Liposuction . . .
This technique is performed with the help of a special cannula that produces ultrasonic energy. As this cannula passes through the areas of fat, the energy explodes the walls of the fat cells and liquefies the fat. The fat is then removed using the basic tumescent technique of liposuction.
In UAL, the underlying fat in a particular region is subjected to ultrasound waves at a specific frequency and for a specific amount of time. These waves vibrate the fat tissues vigourously, rupturing their cell walls and liquifying them. The liquified fat is then easily removed with a suction pump.
4)Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL):
In this technique, an electrically powered device that oscillates in a piston-cylinder type cannula is used to suck out the excess fat. As compared to the suction-assisted technique, PAL reduces the surgeon’s work allowing them to work flexibly and also results in a higher amount of fat removal in less time. This method is normally used to remove fat from difficult, secondary and scarred areas or for removing a large amount of fat for transplants.
5)Laser-Assisted Liposuction (LAL):
This technique uses a high-intensity laser beam to emulsify the solidified fat under the skin. The surgeon inserts a fibre through an incision and shoots a laser beam that directly breaks down the fat deposits. The emulsified fat is then sucked out through a cannula.
Vaser Liposuction is an advanced alternative option for traditional liposuction. The treatment is gaining popularity for the aesthetic appearance it provides with less pain and side effects compared to conventional liposuction. The VASERlipo has this unique ability to react only on a particular area chosen to target fat without affecting the nearby essential tissues.
The VASERlipo treatment uses ultrasound energy to melt the fats and remove them from a patient’s body. This process is an ideal choice for areas which have a larger volume of fat to burn and are denser. Vaser treatment is gentle on the skin and therefore makes it easy for the patient to recover soon.
Vaser liposuction is considered by patients who failed to get a dramatic transformation even after following diet and vigorous exercises. VASERlipo treatment can sculpt and shape different body parts in one single procedure, which includes
- Jowls, chin, and neck
- Abs, hips, and love handles
- Male and female breasts
- Buttocks, thighs, and back
- Knees, calves, and ankles
Vaser liposuction treatment is a clinically proven procedure that produces even results if performed under expert guidance.
VASERlipo is performed using a saline solution mixed with anaesthetics (tumescent liquid) which gets injected into the body region that needs treatment. The fat cells are then treated using state of the art ultrasound technology to melt the fat cells. These fat cells are then removed from your body using a suction process.
The saline solution used for Vaser liposuction treatment gives the patient smoother and contoured looks that he/she desired. Also, the solution eliminates any risk of bleeding or bruising by protecting the vital tissues from damage.

What are post-operative expectations?
After surgery, you will most likely experience some fluid drainage from the incisions. To control swelling and to help your skin better fit its new contours, you may be fitted with a snug elastic compression garment to wear over the treated area for a few weeks upto 3 months. The stitches are removed or dissolve on their own within the first week to 10 days.
How long does it take to get back to normal activities?
You should be back to work or your normal activities within just a few days after surgery. Walking around as soon as possible will help reduce swelling. Though liposuction helps remove fat permanently it is important to know that it does not prevent additional weight gain. Hence in order to maintain the results you have achieved with liposuction, it will be important to watch your diet and follow a regular exercise routine like walking, aerobics or weight-training.
Frequently asked questions :
The most common technique of liposuction can take from 30 minutes to several hours depending on the extent of fat removal.
The scars from liposuction are small (2 – 4mm) and unnoticeable.
Liposuction for cellulite removal is not completely effective, though it can diminish the appearance of cellulite. Cellulite is caused by many factors, many of which liposuction cannot change: age, genetics, gender, and the thickness of your skin.
Liposuction removes the fat cells from specific areas of the body. These fat cells will not return; however, if the patient does not follow a healthy diet and exercise routine, the remaining fat cells could expand and lead to weight gain across all areas of the body. With a post- liposuction exercise and diet regimen, patients can maintain their slimmer figures.
You will most likely notice some improvement after your liposuction surgery, but it will take four to six weeks for most of the swelling to subside. There will be a noticeable difference in your body contour almost immediately after liposuction surgery and a small amount of swelling that will continue to subside for a few months after. Your new contour will remain permanent as long as you maintain a healthy lifestyle. If you gain weight after your liposuction surgery, the weight will distribute itself evenly throughout your body and will not settle in the same problem areas.
When can I go back to work?Your return to work depends on how many areas of the body you had treated with liposuction. Some people may be able to return to work immediately, but most people take an average of four to seven days off before returning to their jobs or daily routine.
Yes but it depends on the medical condition of the patient and the amount of fat to be removed. Breast implant is a treatment normally conducted with liposuction.
Yes we do.
The success of the liposuction surgery depends on the elasticity of the skin. Elasticity is generally good in males but elasticity in females depends on skin tone.
As you gain more weight, the size of fat cells keeps growing. And as the number of fat cells grows too, they start to accumulate around specific areas and create a thick layer which almost doesn’t melt even by exercising. This may lead to a condition called lipodystrophy. In some cases, this condition can be genetic and hence uncontrollable. Liposuction is generally used to reduce such localized fat deposits from a body part without causing any major reduction or change in its shape. Liposuction is also performed as a secondary surgery to other cosmetic surgeries such as facelifts, breast reductions and tummy tucks, to improve the overall results of these primary surgeries.
Although it is a surgery to remove excess fat, it works expectedly only on people who are already in better shape and have stable body weight. Ideally, you are assumed to be a good candidate if your weight is not more than 30 % of your ideal weight. Also, since Liposuction doesn’t alter any aspects of the skin, the results are better in people who have healthy, well-toned and flexible skin which can mould its shape according to the new contour. It has been observed that nonsmokers and nonalcoholics gain a greater advantage from this surgery than those who smoke. You may not be approved to have this surgery if you’re suffering from conditions such as coronary artery disease, diabetes, or if you have a weak immune system.
Liposuction is usually performed under local or regional anaesthesia. However, depending on the procedure, general anaesthesia may also be used. A sedative may be induced to relax your body during the process.
- First, the surgeon marks circles and lines as boundaries over the target areas of your body.
- The surgeon will make incisions over the target region and carefully insert a surgical cannula through it.
- Now, with the help of any of the liposuction methods, the underlying fat will be broken down to a point where it liquifies.
- The surgeon will then take a ‘negative pressure’ suction pump. This pump creates a vacuum within the tube, causing the liquified fat to be sucked upwards and removed through an outlet.
- Once the desired amount of fat is removed, the cannula is removed, and the incision is closed with sutures.
Being an invasive surgery, Liposuction involves some risks that cannot be overlooked and must be considered before undergoing the procedure. Some of these complications may even trigger a secondary terminal emergency. Following are the most concerning complications you must be aware of:
- If your skin isn’t elastic enough, it may permanently appear saggy, bumpy or wavy after fat removal.
- The spot where the cannula was inserted may heal with a circular dent over the skin. These deformities may require other cosmetic surgeries for rectification.
- Due to the loose skin, packets of fluids may form underneath it which can be deflated with injections.
- If some loosened fatty tissues remain under the skin after suction, they can move and gather in a blood vessel.
- They may now travel through the bloodstream and end up in the lungs or travel to the brain and cause terminal problems.
- Skin infections are rarely associated with Liposuction, but they may be caused due to a past disorder or a systemic disease that hinders the healing process.
- Some cases of skin infections can be life-threatening and require immediate attention.
- If the cannula isn’t inserted carefully, it may damage other internal organs. Although organ punctures are rare during the suction process too, they will require immediate surgical repair to prevent internal bleeding.
- Lidocaine is induced along with anaesthesia to reduce pain and relax the body during the procedure. It may potentially cause toxic reactions in certain people and lead to severe problems in the nervous system.
Kidney & Heart Problems:
- The transaction of fluids in and out of the body may cause a chemical imbalance in the kidneys, lungs and the heart. This fluid imbalance can lead to a mental shock during the procedure, which is a serious medical emergency.
You can expect some swelling and bruises after the procedure which will subside within weeks. You will have to wait a few days before returning to your daily routine. You’ll have to wear compression garments over the treated area for some time. The fat cells are removed permanently, and the treated area will appear less bulky and appear to be leaner in a few months. Despite this fact, the overall body weight will return to its original level before treatment after a few months. However, Liposuction doesn’t improve cellulite dimpling, stretch marks or other skin surface irregularities. The longevity of results from Liposuction highly depends on your body weight. Hence, the results will last as long as you stay fit and not put on excess weight. If your skin is weak and lacks elasticity, chances are the treated area will appear a bit saggy.
Our body doesn’t produce any new fat cells after going through puberty. Liposuction removes some of these fat cells from your body, which cannot regenerate and hence, the fat will not accumulate in the treated part after the procedure.
The procedure may last up to several hours, depending on the extent of fat removal and you will most probably be allowed to leave the same day. However, if the procedure has been performed on different parts, you may have to stay overnight until the surgeon is sure that your body has stabilized.
Your medical history will be assessed to learn about any systemic diseases. Blood tests and physical examination will determine your eligibility for the surgery.
