Fillers for collagen replacement
The underlying layer of the skin that contains collagen supports the skin and helps it remain springy with firm contours. With age, this support system weakens and the skin begins to wrinkle and sag. Lines appear on the forehead, outside of the eyes, lips, on the cheeks and between the nose and the mouth. A technology that uses a clear gel-like substance called derma fillers provides a solution to weakened collagen. Derma fillers injected just under the surface of the skin work by holding up the top layers of the skin and adding volume to make the skin look young again.
What is the actual procedure?
During this procedure, a clear gel is injected into the skin through a thin needle. The gel provides natural volume to the selected area and smoothes out lines in this area. No anesthesia may be required and pain-sensitive skins may need a ice pack before the treatment. Back in the nineteenth century, doctors used fat from patients’ arms and injected it into their faces to plump up the skin. Then, doctors used paraffion and silicone as derma fillers. In the late nineties, a form of collagen derived from cows that was safe for human use was discovered.
How long does the treatment take?
Derma fillers take about 45 to 60 minutes to administer.
What can I expect after the treatment?
There will be slight redness and swelling immediately after the treatment. The swelling will disappear in a day or two though after lip treatment it may last a little longer.
Can the filler be removed?
No. The filler is a natural material and it dissolves with time without any side-effects.
