Birthmark Removal Treatment

Birthmarks are marks on the skin that are present at birth or develop soon after. Birthmarks are generally categorized as:
Port-wine stain birthmarks are vascular birthmarks caused by a high concentration of blood vessels in a particular area. These birthmarks, when found on the forehead, eyelids or side of the face, are mostly associated with an increased risk of glaucoma and seizures.

Coffee-and-cream birthmarks are patches of skin with a high concentration of pigment.
Very often, birthmarks on exposed areas of skin can be embarrassing and uncomfortable. Their removal provides the desired boost to a person’s confidence and well-being.
Until the twentieth century, the technology to remove birthmarks effectively was non-existent. Now with the invention of high-energy pulsing lasers, at Karishma Laser & Cosmetic Clinic, birthmarks can be removed with ease and precision

What is the actual procedure?

At Karishma Laser & Cosmetic Clinic the doctor will first cleanse the area to be treated. A cold press or a local anesthetic may be used to numb the area. A laser beam is targeted to the birthmark and the light penetrates the surface of the skin to lighten it gradually. Port-wine stain birthmarks become less noticeable and the skin tone is more or less evened out. In most coffee-and-cream birthmarks, laser treatment can eliminate the mark altogether

How long does the treatment take?

The time taken depends on the size and depth of the birthmark. Most birthmarks can be removed in less than an hour. Port-wine stain birthmarks may need several sessions spaced several months apart.
